The execution of Alexander II by the Narodnaya Volya on March 1, 1881 became a turning point in the history of the Russian liberation movement and predetermined the internal political development of the country for many decades. Today it is time to recreate a holistic and objective picture of those dramatic events. An attempt to solve this problem is made in this collection. The basis of the book is the memoirs and documents of Narodnaya Volya members, eyewitness accounts, investigative, judicial and government materials, memoirs of statesmen, literary portraits of dead and executed revolutionaries.
