Based on the title of the novel, “Liar” should be about a liar, but if you remember who wrote it, then everything is not so simple. Stephen Fry, a talented actor and writer, knows how to mix truth with fiction, replacing one with the other. Adrian Healy is an incorrigible liar and a complete cynic. This is on the one hand. On the other hand, he is a sophisticated inventor and subtle observer. Adrian always lied. First, in a private elite school, where he harassed inflated teachers - in order to brighten up the miserable school existence. Then to Cambridge - in order to avoid the exam routine and earn a place in the sun. Adrian lies so talentedly that truly brilliant career prospects open up before him, but Adrian loves to make things up more than make money. But life decides for him - thanks to his talent as a liar, Adrian finds himself in the center of a complicated story with bloody murders, espionage and endless lies... Stephen Fry's debut novel "Liar" would probably have received the warmest approval of Evelyn Waugh, Oscar Wilde and Pelham G. Wodehouse, if they are alive. Actually, the famous actor and showman looked up to them when he took up his pen, and his novel turned out to be perfectly English - with an ironic squint, a cascade of jokes, elegant puns and an extremely whimsical plot.
