H.G. Wells is considered the father of modern science fiction. In War of the Worlds he described alien invasion and the use of poisonous gases and laser weapons, in The Time Machine he described travel to other eras, and in The Island of Doctor Moreau he described the creation of living beings. Thanks to him, such concepts as parallel worlds (“People are like gods”) and antigravity (“First people on the Moon”) appeared. Many of Wells' ideas turned out to be prophetic - he predicted the creation of the atomic bomb. But Wells himself was primarily interested in the problems of society. One of his beliefs, consistently expressed throughout his work, was the desire for social justice and rejection of violence.
