The book, which is the second part of the trilogy “The History and Culture of an Indian Temple,” is dedicated to the life of a Hindu temple. The book tells about temple everyday life and holidays, about the temple economy and temple personnel, about temple management and the problems that the house of God has to face in modern conditions, about the gifts that believers present to their gods, and about the protection of temple property, about crimes, committed by some people in relation to the temple and its inhabitants, and about temple ritualism. The book also focuses on a comparison of two ritual models - yagna and puja, some aspects of Vedic sacrifice, as well as issues that are not so often covered in Indological literature - temple slavery and the anti-Brahmin movement.
