Patrick Colum (1881–1972), a famous Irish writer from the circle of James Joyce, was a passionate lover and popularizer of myths of different nations. His "Children of Odin" is a surprisingly fresh, permeated with a sense of youthful primordiality and, moreover, a crystal clear presentation of the enchantingly confusing legends and tales of ancient Scandinavia. The book is illustrated with drawings by the talented American artist Willie Pogany (1882–1956), which give it a special charm.
