The monograph of Doctor of Philosophy, Professor E. N. Shapinskaya is devoted to reflections on how mass culture is changing, how the entire culture as a whole is changing with the advent of the Internet era, how social changes affect the sphere of culture and how this affects intellectual reflection. The collected and analyzed material is of interest for understanding the dynamics of mass culture, from the moment of its formation in the era of industrial society to the present day, where culture is increasingly turning into the realm of the virtual, where all the achievements of mankind are available “in one click”, where communication takes place in many ways using visual images, and the texts of classical works are reduced to the size of a brochure. The book consists of three sections. The first section of the book is devoted to theories of mass culture in their historical dynamics. The second section examines the practices of popular culture. The third section poses a very important problem - the fate of works of “high culture” in the space of mass culture. The monograph is addressed to cultural researchers, students, undergraduates studying in the specialty “theory and history of culture”, it will expand the understanding of mass culture and take a fresh look at some of its texts and artifacts.
