N. Mat. Yellow Devil. T. 3: The yellow one’s teeth are broken. 1920-23 - B. m.: Salamandra P.V.V., 2019. - 248 p. - (Polaris: Travel, adventure, fiction. Issue CCXCII). “The Yellow Devil” is an explosive three-volume mixture of avant-garde, propaganda, detective, spy and adventure novel, designed to give a wide panorama of the Civil War in the Far East. In addition to fictitious persons, it also features very real characters, from Baron Ungern and Ataman Semenov to the American commander Grevs and the Japanese General Ooi, the Red commanders S. Lazo and Y. Tryapitsyn and others, and the action unfolds with dizzying speed over a vast space from Siberia to China and Japan. This remarkable novel remained inaccessible to readers for many decades. The authors who made up the writing duo “Nicked Mat”, futurist poet V. Mart (1896-1937) and prose writer, poet, essayist and former “red partisan” N. Kostarev (1893-1941?), disappeared in Stalin’s dungeons, and “ Yellow Devil" was banned. But both in the “perestroika” and post-Soviet years, the novel was never reprinted...
