In Miriam Whitelaw's country cottage, her friend and protégé, the famous cricketer Kenneth Fleming, dies. As it turns out, those who might have wanted Fleming dead were: his abandoned wife, a son who had not forgiven his father for leaving the family, and the prodigal daughter Mrs. Whitelaw, who had reason to fear that Fleming would inherit her mother’s considerable fortune.
