In 1845, Mathias Alexander Castren, on behalf of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, went to Siberia to further study local languages. During his expedition, he visited the cities of Tobolsk, Irkutsk, Berezov and Obdorsk (he visited the Barsova Gora tract for the first time) and explored the basins of such rivers as the Irtysh, Ob and Yenisei. He traveled around the Achinsk and Minusinsk steppes, as well as the Sayan Mountains and the Baikal region. The second volume included travel notes by M. Castren “Travel to Siberia (1845-1849).” The book is addressed to those who are interested in the history of the region, Siberia.
