Memoirs of Marc Chagall's son David McNeil is a story about the days spent next to Chagall, something between a story and a memoir. David's mother is artist Virginia Haggard-McNeil, niece of the famous English writer, author of the book “My Life with Chagall.” She played an important role in the return to life of M. Chagall after the death of his wife Bella. In almost all of McNeil's short stories, in addition to Chagall, the artist's second official wife, Valentina Grigorievna Brodskaya, or, as those around her were called, Vava, appears. David initiates the reader into the “kitchen” of his father’s creativity, hidden from prying eyes, and reports on some of Chagall’s common habits. He notes the incredible vitality and eccentricity that survived into old age, bringing him closer to Charlie Chaplin, whom Chagall himself considered the most “congenial” in the art of the 20th century. Published in Russian for the first time. David McNeil (b. 1946) is a musician, author of several books, son of Marc Chagall.
