A story about fathers and sons, ambitions and failures, and what it means to start a family. This is the answer to the question of what it means to be a man in a relationship - partner, father, stepfather, teacher, lover, writer and friend. Sambra fully explores the theme of relationships at all stages. After a chance meeting in a nightclub, the aspiring poet Gonzalo is reunited with his first love Carla. And although their attraction to each other has not cooled down, many other things have changed: among other things, Carla now has a six-year-old son, Vicente. Soon all three form a happy family - a stepfamily, although there is no such word in their language. In the end, ambition pulls the lovers in different directions, but still little Vicente inherits his former stepfather's love for poetry. When, at eighteen, Vicente meets Pru, an American journalist, he encourages her to write about Chilean poets—not the famous dead ones, but the living ones. Will this investigation lead Vicente and Gonzalo back to each other? The Chilean Poet is a novel about how we choose our families and how we sometimes betray them. This is the answer to the question of what it means to be a man in a relationship - partner, father, stepfather, teacher, lover, writer and friend.
