William Cobb is the pseudonym of the French writer and journalist Jules Lerminá (1839–1915), under which he published his early novels. After several unsuccessful attempts to start his own business, in 1859 Lermina began a journalistic career and took the side of the socialists, which led him to several stays in prison. Lermina left a rich creative heritage, which includes adventure novels (including sequels to “Parisian Mysteries” by Eugene Sue and “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas), “police” novels and stories, as well as a biographical dictionary and a dictionary of argot.
