Alexander Kluge (b. 1932) is one of the major directors of the New German Cinema of the 1970s, the author of the films “Farewell to the Past”, “Performers under the Big Top: Helpless”, “Patriot” and others that went down in cinema history as examples of intellectual authorial directing. In Germany, Kluge is no less famous as a TV presenter and writer, the author of many books and a rare creative method that allows him to create large-scale collages from documents and fantasies, texts and images. “Chronicle of Feelings,” which incorporates much of what A. Kluge wrote over the decades, was awarded the most prestigious German literary prize in 2003. Georg Buchner. This is a kind of alternative history, assembled from Anna Karenina and Heidegger, military actions in the Crimea and the Napoleonic Wars, from the great and the banal, the tragic and the funny. The provocative and exciting “Chronicle of Feelings” becomes an imaginary chronicle of modernity. An abbreviated authorized version is published in Russian.
