Critics call the novel “Pushkin House” an “epochal book”, a classic of Russian literature of the 20th century. Finished in 1971, it first saw the light only in 1978 - and even then not in the writer’s homeland, but in the USA. And it first came to the Russian reader only in 1989. And it immediately became a cult book of an entire generation.
