The heroine of this story decided to suffer under the rod like the heroine of the novel of the same name by the writer of the early last century, Anna Mar, who, in turn, named her work after an engraving by the artist Felicien Rops. This engraving was depicted on the cover of the book, but vigilant censorship covered it with paint. Still, instead of Christ, a fallen woman was depicted on the cross. And the novel came out with a black blot on the cover...
