Plato (428-347 BC) was a famous wrestler, and the name by which we know him was his wrestling nickname. It means "broad" and seems to be a reference to his shoulders (or forehead, as some claim). The future philosopher won the Isthmian Games twice, but, it seems, never succeeded in the Olympic Games. Then he became a student of Socrates and created a doctrine that gave intellectual justification to Christianity - the only force that was able to survive the “dark ages”...
