The study of A. A. Amalric (1938–1980) “The Normans and Kievan Rus” has a unique history. For this work, Moscow State University student Amalrik was expelled from the university in 1963 because he refused to correct anything in it. The biography of the famous dissident began with this episode. The study remained unknown to the general public and so far existed in just one typewritten copy, scanned by Amalrik and deposited in the United States. The purpose of this publication is to introduce this work into scientific circulation and show what an interesting professional medievalist historian we have lost in the person of its author.
