The book offered to the reader is dedicated to the great saint of the Russian Orthodox Church - the hieromartyr Metropolitan Peter (Polyansky) of Krutitsky, who for 12 years (1925-1937) bore the cross of the head of the Russian Church, while in distant exile and solitary confinement. Largely thanks to his steadfastness, the unity of the Church, torn apart by its persecutors, was preserved. The book includes an essay written in 1968 by the outstanding collector of documents from the history of the Russian Orthodox Church of the 20th century, M. E. Gubonin, under the eloquent title “Cephas,” representing the first biography of the holy Metropolitan Peter of Krutitsa. The essay complements the study by priest Alexander Mazyrin of the feat and suffering of the holy martyr Peter of Krutitsky, which summarizes all currently available materials and publications. The book also includes documents from the investigative files of Metropolitan Peter in 1919-1937, acts of canonization of the saint and reference materials.
