Federico García Lorca (1898–1936) was extraordinarily gifted. Poet and playwright, artist and pianist, brilliant lecturer, director of a theater troupe, he managed to experience stunning success throughout the Spanish-speaking world in his short life. His work is universal: no one else combines lightness and grace so naturally with darkness and horror; “the power of illusions and the stubbornness of reality” constantly struggle within him. The power and originality of his personality, stopped in flight, appears especially clearly before us in the pitiless light of his early death. At dawn on August 19, 1936, he was shot by the Francoists in Wisnar, on the edge of a ravine, at the “Source of Tears.” information product sign 18+
