The career of the Hungarian writer Judith Berg (b. 1974) began in a way familiar in classical literature: she told her children fairy tales, writing them along the way. The children grew up, but Judith Berg remained in literature, delighting and amusing other young readers with her fairy tales. She has two dozen books to her credit, and not thin stories, but voluminous fairy tale novels: the adventures of the mouse Rumi stretched over an entire series of several volumes. Berg's books are very successful in Hungary and are translated into other languages. The fairy tale “The Adventures of a Mischievous Mouse” was awarded as “Book of the Year” in the writer’s homeland in 2007. Rumi the mouse is the brave cabin boy of the Wind Rose, the fastest sailing ship in Mouseland. Rumi hates cleaning the deck and takes naps every now and then instead. Well, of course, he dreams of adventure. But one day the adventures themselves find the mouse. Sea monsters, wonderful creatures living in trees, pirates, treasures, dark dungeons, conspiracies of the royal palace and even a good old wizard - all this awaits little Rumi in the pages of this exciting and funny book...Illustrations by Anna Kalman.
