The hero of the book “Contemplating Dogs” is Ragnar, a former school teacher. He is a misanthrope who prefers dogs to people. In fact, the entire novel is a letter he writes to his psychiatrist. Ragnar is an educated man, with a subtle literary and musical taste, but all his attempts to establish relationships with people end in failure, giving rise to even greater embitterment and the feeling that dogs are much closer to him than people.
