For seventeen-year-old Fable, the daughter of the most powerful merchant in the Narrows, the sea is the only home she has ever known. Four years have passed since the night when a storm took the life of her mother in front of the girl's eyes, and her father abandoned her on an island infested with thieves. Surviving alone, Fable learned not to trust anyone and to use the strength she inherited from her mother. The desire to get off the island, find her father and claim her rightful place next to him and his crew is the only thing that keeps the girl moving on. To escape and pass through the dangerous strait, Fable accepts help from a young merchant named West.
