The play is about what “us” and “stranger” are, about home and homelessness, about the national question and belonging to a particular country, culture, society. Throughout the entire plot, a variety of people appear before us, but in each of them, nationality is emphasized. A Russian girl with a Colombian husband, who is beaten in Russia and who persuades his wife to go to Australia, where... they both turn out to be third-class citizens. Guest workers, overcome by deceitful but absolutely romantic ideas. An American woman and her Czech husband, who emphasizes his German origin. Each of them finds himself out of place and feels that, despite any of his qualities, he is a hostage to his own nationality. And what you want to feel proud of when you are at home, in a foreign land lowers you to the very bottom of the social ladder.
