The book is the first Russian translation into Russian of the anonymous Byzantine military treatise "On Strategy", dating from the final period of Justinian's reign. The translation is based on the critical edition of J. Dennis, published in Washington in 1985. The translation text is preceded by an extensive introductory text an article that examines the main problems of the treatise. The main attention in the comments is paid to the analysis of military-scientific and military-historical realities. The conducted research makes it possible to determine the place of the treatise “On Strategy” in the general tradition of polemological manuals similar in topic, to determine the main sources of its information, to establish the degree of its influence on the development of military-scientific thought subsequent eras. The publication is designed both for specialist historians and for a wide range of readers interested in military-historical issues. The publication was prepared by V.V. Kuchma.
