Lifar’s monograph, published in Russian in Paris in 1939 in the amount of 615 copies (the first part - “Diaghilev” - was republished by the Composer publishing house in 1993) . The world-famous dancer and choreographer, a close collaborator of Diaghilev, S. Lifar shares in the book his memories of the last years of Sergei Pavlovich’s life. Written shortly after Diaghilev's sudden death in 1929, the memoirs convey with extraordinary vividness the features of the legendary founder of the Russian Ballet. The pages devoted to the artistic development of Sergei Lifar and his first stage successes are read with no less interest. In the appendices, for the first time published in our country, translated from French, Lifar's memoirs about his childhood and youth years.
