Prudence Barnett has always been persistent and hardworking, and therefore is quick to judge the weaknesses of others: one is too lazy for her, the second is arrogant, the third is rude... One day Prue appears the ability to dispense karmic justice, and she uses it with pleasure, punishing all indiscriminately.

But there is one person - her lab partner, the slacker Quint Erickson - on whom her powers seem to have the opposite effect. Quint is annoyingly sweet and impressively noble, especially when it comes to his work at the local marine animal rescue center.

Prue also accepts a part-time job at the rescue center, and soon she will find out how thin the line between virtue really is and vanity, generosity and greed, love and hatred.
