They met when they were young, Victor and Amsterdam. Victor, a thoughtful observer, became a writer. Amsterdam, an easy-going lover of technological innovations, became an entrepreneur and investor. Together they became lifelong friends. They made two promises to each other. The first is that someday they will go to Amsterdam together. The second is that when Amsterdam dies, Victor will be there. Years passed and these promises were not fulfilled. While Amsterdam was busy with numerous projects, Victor wrote a book, Amsterdam Without Amsterdam, about the city and its inhabitants. While Amsterdam was on Vipassana in India, Victor died. They did not have time to travel to Amsterdam together. And Victor died earlier. However, the promises they made to each other are stronger than death. And they will be fulfilled.
