Literary and artistic publication for middle school age. Winner of the Edgar Allan Poe Award in 2015 for best detective novel for teenagers. The main character is twelve-year-old Milo Pine, the adopted son of the owners of an inn in Nagspeak, a city of smugglers. The place, called the Green Glass House, is located in a huge, run-down manor house that looks like it was hastily cobbled together from mismatched houses in a dozen different towns. The inn is usually empty at the start of the Christmas holidays, so Milo hopes you should rest. But the silence of the first frosty night is broken by the persistent ringing of a bell. And one after another, five guests check into the hotel. The appearance of each of them is shrouded in some mystery, which turns out to be intertwined with the history of the “House of Green Glass”. Milo is also puzzled by his accidental discovery - a fragment of a navigation map. And meeting Maddie, the cook's youngest daughter, encourages the young man to start a detective game, the goal of which is to find out why all these people came and where this strange map leads. He still does not know what a difficult task awaits him, and what he will learn about the mysterious guests , about home and about yourself.
