Grigory Petrovich Danilevsky (April 14 (26), 1829, Danilovka village, Izyum district, Sloboda-Ukrainian province - December 6 (18), 1890, St. Petersburg) - Russian and Ukrainian writer and publicist, author of novels from the history of Russia and Ukraine of the 18th–19th centuries. Born into a wealthy noble family of a Kharkov landowner, retired lieutenant Pyotr Ivanovich Danilevsky (1802–1839). According to family legends, confirmed, however, by serious documents, the founder of this noble family, Danila Danilov’s son, in 1709 had the honor of receiving Peter I in his house, returning from Azov to Poltava. The writer's cousin, Efrosinya Osipovna Danilevskaya, was the grandmother of the poet Mayakovsky.{1}
