This book is based on genuine memoirs about the outstanding Russian writer of the 20th century, Ivan Sergeevich Shmelev (1873–1950), belonging to his great-nephew Ivistion Zhantiyom, who replaced the writer and his wife’s son Sergei, who was shot by the Bolsheviks. By a happy coincidence, the first person to meet the Shmelevs who fled Russia in Paris was three-year-old Ivushka, who was born almost the year their son died.
