The surrealists, the generation of the Great War, cherished a crazy dream of “changing life” and transforming everything around. And although they did not completely achieve their goal, their work and their experience had a huge impact on the culture of the 20th century. Pierre Dex recreates the heroic period of the surrealist movement: the delight of the pioneers Rimbaud and Lautréamont, the provocations of the Dadaists, the exploration of the boundaries of the reasonable. Emphasizing the role of women in the life of the surrealists and conveying the complexity of the relationship between representatives of this artistic movement and the Communist Party, he brings to the surface the hidden reasons and secret motives of the conflicts and crises that shook the group from the time of its founding in 1917 until 1932 - the year of the final break between its two founders, André Breton and Louis Aragon. Pierre Dex, writer, art historian and journalist, was a friend of Picasso, Eluard and Tzara. For twenty-five years he collaborated with Aragon, being the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Letre Française.
