In 1933, the famous American playwright Maxwell Anderson created the drama-pamphlet “Both Your Houses,” in which, in a sharply satirical manner, he portrayed the American Congress as a bunch of hardened bribe-takers. This bold excursion into the field of political satire, reflecting the critical spirit of the time, opened a new page in the history of US drama: before this, the American stage had not known any successful attempts at satirical depiction of phenomena of socio-political life. The play was awarded the Pulitzer Prize.
