“Life in Ballet” is a memoir similar to the biblical saga about the legendary Plisetsky-Messerer dynasty; the history of an artistic clan against the backdrop of revolutions, wars, arrests and theatrical premieres, written by the youngest of the family, Azary Mikhailovich Plisetsky. The golden age of Russian and world ballet passes before the reader’s eyes: the great Galina Ulanova, the legendary creator of Cuban ballet Alicia Alonso, the French choreographer Maurice Bejart, the magnificent Mikhail Baryshnikov and, of course, the author’s older sister - the demonic and irresistibly beautiful Maya Plisetskaya. In a sense, the brother's book was written in polemic with the sister's memoirs. A different version of well-known events is revealed to us: the optics seem to change before our eyes, a new angle appears, the frame enlarges. At the same time, Azary Plisetsky has the tact to keep his distance and, even in the most difficult life situations, maintain the impeccable composure of a true ballet gentleman.
