In recent decades, the situation with gender inequality in the global film industry has changed significantly: women are increasingly mastering various film professions, achieving great success, including in the directorial field. The focus of critics and researchers mainly remains on women's cinema in Europe and America, although similar gender shifts can be observed in Russia. The book by film scholar Anzhelika Artyukh is the first work about modern Russian film directors. In it, she summarizes her “field research,” analyzing impressions of Russian women’s cinema, talking with its creators and showing what difficulties they have to face. The heroines of this book are Renata Litvinova, Valeria Gai Germanika, Oksana Bychkova, Anna Melikyan, Natalya Meshchaninova and other talented women creating films here and now. Angelika Artyukh - Doctor of Art History, Professor of the Department of Drama and Film Studies at the St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television, member of the International Federation of Film Press (FIPRESCI), curator of the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF), laureate of the Russian Guild of Film Critics.
