Marie-Pierre Ray's book “The Tsar in Paris” tells about the French campaign of Alexander I and the stay of the Russian army in Paris in 1814. It is a logical continuation of the book “A Terrible Tragedy. A new look at 1812”, published by ROSSPEN publishing house in 2015. These two books allow us to compare the behavior of the French and Russian armies on enemy territory and the perception of foreign invasion by two peoples who had long been in confrontation. As with his history of the War of 1812, Ray focuses primarily on the human dimension of the war—the hardships endured by soldiers and civilians alike. The author cites many different testimonies: highly educated Russian officers and ordinary soldiers, Hortense Beauharnais and an enthusiastic sixteen-year-old girl, outstanding representatives of French culture and a sarcastic teacher who hates the Russian invaders with all his soul. Another advantage of the new book is that, unlike the War of 1812, the foreign campaigns of the Russian army, and especially the stay of the Russian army in Paris in 1814, practically did not attract much attention from domestic researchers. In other words, we have before us a completely unique work that will arouse great interest among everyone who is interested in history. The research was carried out by M.-P. Rey, professor at the University of Paris-1 (Pantheon-Sorbonne), scientific director of the Laboratory of Editorial Archeography of UrFU with the support of a grant from the Government of the Russian Federation, agreement No. 14.A 12.310004 dated June 26, 2013
