Edward Mitchell has been called "the forgotten giant of American fiction." In the seventies of the 19th century, he wrote thirty science fiction stories, but he gave science fiction as many wonderful ideas as any author before him. Mitchell was the first to describe an invisible man, a time machine, a cyborg, a head without a body, and much that other science fiction writers (including Wells) wrote about much later. Mitchell's stories have been translated into Russian for the first time, and the book “Spectroscope of the Soul” is the first and so far only Russian edition of the stories of this wonderful American science fiction writer.
