In the first edition of the book (Gamma-Press, M., 2010), for the first time, all the found texts of Zalman Gradovsky, one of the members of the “Sonderhommando” in Auschwitz-Birkenau, who died on October 7, 1944 during the uprising, were presented without distortions or cuts. His notes, found in the ashes near the crematorium, can without exaggeration be called one of the central documents of the Holocaust. This second edition is supplemented by an extensive appendix by P. Polyan, which explores the phenomenon of the “Sonderkommando”, analyzes the facts of the historical tragedy in Auschwitz-Birkenau, and also sets out the history discovery and publication of written evidence of members of the Sonderkommando. The book is addressed to a wide range of readers.
