Juan Madrid (b. 1947) is a famous Spanish writer, journalist, film scriptwriter, author of more than forty books translated into sixteen languages. A series of his novels gained great popularity, where the main character is Tony Carpintero, a former police officer and then a private detective, whose quarrelsome character and strong life principles prevent him from accepting certain rules of the game that operate in modern society. In the novel “Farewell, Princess,” Tony is busy investigating the murder of young television journalist Lydia Ripoll, who, judging by the entries in her personal diary, could well become the bride of Prince Felipe, the future king of Spain, so the search for her killer is closely monitored by people at the levers of power. Tony Carpintero's friend, a successful detective writer Juan Delforo, is accused of the crime. Sitting in prison, he asks Tony for help. However, Delforo turns out to be completely different from the person Tony knew and trusted all these years.
