Federigo Tozzi (1883–1920) is the recognized pride of Italian literature, a classic of the first magnitude and an object of scrupulous study. He is rightly considered one of the best Italian novelists of the early 20th century. The psychological and expressionistic nature of his prose coupled with the deliberate dispassion of the narrative made Tozzi an inimitable master of style. The early death of the writer did not allow him to recognize his lifetime fame; it flared up even more brightly after his death. The novel “Closing My Eyes” (1919) is the only novel published during the writer’s lifetime and is distinguished by its autobiographical nature.
