The famous novel by Raymond Chandler, whose books about private detective Philip Marlowe not only laid the foundations for the hardboiled detective genre, but also became modern classics in the broadest sense. Several reference noir films were made based on Chandler's stories, and for many, the image of Marlowe is strongly associated with the personality of Humphrey Bogart, who starred in this role several times. But Bogart was not the first: even before his “The Long Sleep,” two film adaptations of the novel “Farewell, My Love” had been made—with George Sanders in 1942 and with Dick Powell in 1944; the third film adaptation appeared in 1975, and in this film Philip Marlowe was played by Robert Mitchum. Marlowe represents a new type of detective hero: he is a romantic, sentimental knight, always maintaining his individuality and observing a code of honor. He doesn't look for adventure - they find it themselves. Like that March day when he just reminded one big guy that he had to pay for his drinks. Their paths will cross again - after all, both are looking for the same beauty...
