Announcement No, no one will ever forget... school years, damn it... Seventeen years old, the desire to please women, the need for self-esteem and the respect of classmates, which can only be achieved by becoming the coolest... And it seems incredible that there is There is such a person in the world who doesn’t give a damn about all these problems. Nevertheless, here he is, New Boy - smart, handsome, independent, strong. Next to him, you seem like a vile freak and so dream of making friends with this amazing person. So much so that it’s time to even doubt your own sexual orientation... Sutcliffe masterfully turns out teenage complexes and fears, and ironically explores the absurdity of school life and the intricacies of the school hierarchy. His hero is smart but unsure of himself, he has a sharp tongue but is afraid of banter, he dreams of unearthly sex but is content with making out with the ugliest girl. He notices the smallest details of what is happening to other people, but does not see anything under his nose. He seems to himself to be a shrewd old man, but his older brother, his best friend, and his beloved girl remain mysteries for him. He doesn’t know a damn thing about this life, although he puffs himself up with all his might. He is touching, scary and pitiful at the same time, but what saves him is his self-irony and sense of humor. William Sutcliffe, well known to Russian readers for his novel “Try It,” succeeded in the almost impossible: turning school life with its everyday cruelty and cynicism into an endless and intelligent comedy.
