The book summarizes the many years of experience of the co-authors in the field of legal regulation of information relations, as well as their thoughts on the ways of development of modern (both domestic and foreign) law in the context of global changes that accompany the formation of the information society. The central problem to which the book is devoted is the relationship between “information” (a relatively new object of legal regulation) and “property” (a legal institution with a centuries-old history). Particular attention is paid to the historical aspect: tracing the evolution in the interpretation of these concepts, the authors present to the reader the identified problems and ways to solve them. When considering issues related to the legal regulation of the Internet, the authors rely on the latest foreign research on this topic. The book concludes with a critical analysis of current Russian legislation in the information sphere. The book is equipped with an extensive bibliography of Russian and foreign sources. A translation of the US Freedom of Information Act is published in the Appendix. The book is intended for lawyers working in the field of information technology and specialists in the field of lawmaking.
