Yehudi Menuhin became a citizen of the world even before he was born. He was born in the States on April 22, 1916, traveled all over the planet, lived in England for many years and died on March 12, 1999 in Berlin. Between these two dates lay the long, amazing and admirable life path of a great musician and an even greater man. At the age of seven, he shocked the public with a brilliant performance of Lalo’s “Spanish Symphony” accompanied by a symphony orchestra. By the middle of the century, Yehudi Menuhin had already become famous as one of the main violinists in the world. His career is marked by fruitful collaborations with outstanding composers and musicians such as George Enescu, Bela Bartok, Sir Edward Elgar, Pablo Casals, and Indian sitarist Ravi Shankar. In 1965, Menuhin was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II and became Sir Yehudi and subsequently a Lord. The founder of two famous international festivals - Gstadt in Switzerland and Bath in England, Chairman of the International Music Council and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Menuhin sought to prove that music can serve as a universal language of communication for all peoples and cultures. Yehudi Menuhin was also endowed with an extraordinary talent for writing . “Wanderings” is the story of a giant of modern art, and at the same time a panorama of the past century, seen through the eyes of a peacemaker and a tireless fighter for justice.
