England, early 20th century. Giles Ware, heir to an old Essex family, is engaged to the young lady Daisy Kent, and their wedding is about to be announced. But the young squire's thoughts are very far from this marriage union. His heart and soul are drawn to his bride's governess, Anna. He is torn between his ardent love and his word to Daisy and her guardian.
