This small collection of the famous French novelist, poet, master of the love genre Francis Carcot (1886–1958) includes two of his works - the fairly well-known novel “Just a Woman” and one that has not been published in Russia since the beginning of the 20th century, “firmly” forgotten essay “The Man Being Tracked.” The first tells about the irresistible passion of a young man for a maid. At the same time, the difference in age and social status, betrayal, jealousy, and general condemnation only further inflame this passion. The second novel presents the story of the strange relationship between a man and a woman - a murderer and a witness to a crime - who, despite the fear they feel towards each other, hostility, united by a common secret and painful mutual attraction. In the murder scenario and the hero’s torment, readers will certainly notice some parallel with Dostoevsky’s “Crime and Punishment.”
