The book is dedicated to one of the most prominent Soviet intelligence officers. Coming from a modest Lithuanian Karaite family, he successfully defended the republic in Spain; participated in the elimination of Trotsky; was our resident in Latin America during the Second World War, disrupting the supply of strategic cargo to Nazi Germany. After the war, he “worked” as Costa Rica’s ambassador to Italy and Yugoslavia, was his own man in the Vatican, remaining an employee of illegal intelligence... His extraordinary talent helped him to reveal himself “retired”: he became one of the largest Russian historians, the best expert on the problems of Latin America and the Catholic Church, the author of many books and articles (some under the pseudonym I. Lavretsky), including the first biography in Russian of Ernesto Che Guevara The contribution of this man to the successes of our state is still difficult to appreciate. The first serious attempt to do this is the book offered to the reader, written on a large array of unknown materials.
