Erwin Schrödinger formulated a famous thought experiment to demonstrate the absurdity of the physical interpretation of quantum theory advocated by such contemporaries as Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg. Schrödinger's cat, between life and death, awaits the observer who will decide his fate. This vivid image immediately became a symbol of quantum mechanics, which contradicts intuition in the same way that the situation with a cat, both alive and dead, defies comprehension. Schrödinger lost this battle, but his name is forever written in golden letters in the history of science thanks to the wave equation - the main tool for describing the physical world on the atomic scale.
