The work of Richer of Reims “History” is practically the main source on the political history of France in the second half of the 10th century. It highlights the vicissitudes of the struggle for power between the Carolingian and Capetian dynasties, contains valuable information about the educational system and everyday culture of that time, about the early period of activity of the famous encyclopedist scientist, the future Pope Herbert. Richer’s “History,” written in a unique, expressive language, is also of great literary interest. It is being completely translated into Russian for the first time.
