German military surgeon Peter Bamm performed operations in the summer dust and winter cold, without rest for many hours in the most difficult conditions. Temporary field hospitals were set up right in the trenches and bomb shelters, and the flow of wounded did not dry up. Bamm was a front-line medic and fulfilled his duty by saving people.
