At the beginning of the Northern War, Russian troops captured the Swedish fortress of Nyenschanz, which stood on the Neva, during the campaign of 1703. And already on May 16 (27), 1703, Peter I founded the St. Petersburg fortress at the mouth of the Neva. And this is on Swedish lands, which became part of Russia only in 1721! It is no wonder that the Swedes did not abandon their attempts to return the territories recaptured by the Russians and destroy their new fortress. One of these attempts - July 8, 1703 - was destined to open a new page in the history of the Russian state. The story is dedicated to these events, which forever returned Russia to its ancient northwestern lands.
